Message from the Board Chairman—October 2026

This year's Cybersecurity Awareness Month theme, "Don't Make It Easy for Them," is a good reminder that we all have a role to play in protecting ourselves from fraud and scams.

Scammers are getting more sophisticated, but you don't have to be a tech expert to make their job harder. One of the simplest things you can do is use strong, unique passwords.

Strong passwords are your first line of defense

An 8-character password can be cracked in seconds, no matter how many symbols or special characters you use. A 16-character password can take years to crack.

Here are five easy tips for strong passwords:
  • Go long: Use passwords that contain at least 16 characters.
  • Keep them unique: Never reuse the same password across accounts.
  • Mix it up: Use a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Skip the obvious: Avoid kids' names, birthdays, pet names and other personal information that scammers can easily find or guess.
  • Use a password manager: It can create and securely store strong passwords for you. Many are free.

Protect more than your money

Cybersecurity isn't just about protecting your bank accounts. Our phones and computers contain a lot of personal information, from family details to medical records. Taking a few simple steps can help keep that information out of the wrong hands.

As a Tower member, you have access to resources to help you and your family stay one step ahead of scammers, including our: You can also strengthen your protection with ID Smart Shield, our identity theft prevention service available in Tower's Digital Banking.

Shred it before you toss it

Protecting your information doesn't stop online. Shredding sensitive documents is another easy way to help prevent fraud.

Mark your calendar for Tower's free Shred Day on Saturday, November 7 at our Laurel branch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—or until both shred trucks are full! Bring your documents for secure shredding, then stick around for free food, games, and prizes. Click here for event details.

Honoring the fallen through service

As a volunteer Board member of the TowerCares Foundation, I'm proud to share how Tower employees honored the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance last month.

Throughout the week, employees volunteered with TowerCares charity partners that support local military, Veterans and children in need. On September 11, employees also surprised local firefighters at several local firehouses with a free pizza lunch as a small thank-you for their service and dedication to our communities. Tower is a credit union that truly cares about the communities we serve, and I'm proud to serve as your volunteer Board Chairman.

Homers for Heroes update—$70K donated!

Tower and TowerCares teamed up with Baltimore Orioles first baseman Pete Alonso to turn home runs into support for Maryland's Veterans and military heroes this baseball season. For every Pete Alonso home run, the TowerCares Foundation donated $2,500 to The Alonso Foundation.

As of this writing, TowerCares has donated over $70,000 to the Alonso Foundation—including a bonus home run we counted even though the officials didn't! Learn more about Homers for Heroes.

With thanks and appreciation

We're fortunate to have an incredible team behind Tower. As a federal credit union, all Board and committee positions are filled by volunteers who are dedicated and strongly committed Tower members. Their professional expertise, collective knowledge, and passion is impressive and contributes greatly to the success of Tower.

Our employees are an absolutely outstanding group of high-performing professionals that continue to make Tower a great credit union. They work hard every day to provide the outstanding service and products our members count on. I would like to extend my deep appreciation for their care, compassion, and commitment.

Most importantly, thank you to our members for your continued trust and partnership. We work extremely hard to be the financial institution of choice for our members. We're proud to be here for you and your families through every stage of life and every financial need.

Best wishes for a peaceful holiday season

As we approach the end of the year, I would like to close with warm wishes for the upcoming holiday season and best wishes for the new year. I hope everyone has the opportunity to relax, recharge, and spend quality time with the people who matter most.
