February 2022 Message from the Board Chair—Arland White

On behalf of your volunteer Board of Directors, I want to wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year. Reflecting over the past year, 2021 had its share of challenges as we continued to deal with a global health crisis. I am especially proud of the way we have continued to navigate these difficult times together, and of Tower’s resilience and dedication to the safety and well-being of our members and employees.

As a member-owner, Tower is your credit union, and our mission of supporting you and helping to meet your financial needs during good and bad times has never wavered. We are more focused than ever on providing the top-notch financial products and services to help you achieve your financial goals.

Technology upgrade coming this month
Over Presidents Day weekend (February 19-21), Tower will conduct a technology upgrade that will allow us to serve you better, offer enhanced products and digital services, and provide innovations for the future. The upgrade will begin on Friday, Feb. 18 at 6:00 p.m. and continue through the holiday weekend. We will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 22, and resume normal business hours. Our goal is to make this a smooth transition for all of our members. Please visit our dedicated system upgrade page so you can familiarize yourself with enhancements and possible service interruptions.

New ITM in Clarksville Branch
Although branch traffic has decreased due to the pandemic, we continue to provide the latest in branch banking technology for our members. In the fall of last year, we added an Interactive Teller Machine (ITM) in our Clarksville branch. ITMs provide safe, secure transactions, encourage social distancing and reduce face-to-face interactions. We will be rolling out additional ITMs at Tower branch locations in 2022.

Tower named a Great Place to Work—four years in a row!
While technology is important, the heart of Tower is our people. That’s why I’m especially proud to announce that Tower has once again been designated a “great workplace” by the independent analysts at Great Place to Work® (GPTW)—for the fourth year in a row! Tower earned the GPTW credential based on extensive ratings provided by our employees in anonymous surveys. Our employees once again cited a caring, transparent management team, excellent benefits, flexible schedules and opportunities for advancement amongst the reasons why Tower is a great place to work. If you’d like to join our team, please visit our Careers page.

One of our highest GPTW survey scores centered around Tower’s philanthropic work environment and commitment to giving back to the local community, most notably through the TowerCares Foundation, which helps our military heroes, Veterans and children in need. In 2021, we reached an important milestone—over $1 million in donations, grants and scholarships to 66 incredible organizations. If you’d like to support TowerCares, we are holding our annual “Have A Heart” campaign this month to help critically ill children receiving care at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Md. A note of thanks to Marie Rowland and a welcome to our new Board members
Speaking on behalf of our entire Board, I would like to take a moment to express our sincere appreciation to Marie Rowland for her volunteer service as a Tower Board member. Marie retired from Tower’s volunteer Board in the fall. Over her 20 years of serving on our Board of Directors, Marie held several significant Board leadership positions, including Vice Chair and Board Chair. Her commitment and dedication to Tower will be greatly missed and we wish her the very best in the future.

As a result of Marie’s retirement, and also Alan Smith’s retirement in May of last year, the Board has appointed two new Board members to fulfill the remainder of Marie’s and Alan’s terms. I’d like to welcome Marcus Parker, who will fulfill Alan’s remaining term through May of this year, and Scott Brown, who will fulfill Marie’s remaining term through May 2023. Both Marcus and Scott bring to Tower’s Board fantastic credentials and experience that will serve Tower members well moving forward. The Board extends our deep appreciation for their interest and volunteerism.

Share the gift of Tower membership
If you have family members or co-workers that are not yet Tower members, I invite you to share the benefits of membership with them. Let them see for themselves why Forbes magazine has named Tower the best credit union in Maryland!

Thank you for your continued trust in us
In closing, thank you for your Tower membership and for hanging in there with us during these trying times. I think, despite the roller coaster of a global health crisis, we have come through it all a stronger credit union family.

I wish the best for you and your family in 2022, and here’s to a healthy and prosperous year ahead for all of us. We continue to help our members facing financial hardship due to COVID-19. If you need assistance, please contact us.

And please mark your calendars for Tower’s Annual Meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The Annual Meeting will again be virtual. Look for more details to come.
