The TowerCares Foundation is proud to announce the winners of the 2021-22 College Scholarship Program. This year, the Foundation awarded ten $5,000 scholarships. Since 2018, TowerCares has awarded $125,000 in college scholarships to 25 students.
The scholarship is open to all current high school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and juniors who will be attending an accredited two- or four-year college/university full-time. This year’s scholarship recipients were selected from an impressive pool of over 200 applications by an independent judging organization.
Judging was based on academic record/achievements, awards/honors received; community involvement, including volunteerism and extracurricular activities; and the content of two required essay responses.

Amanda Betts, a sophomore at the University of South Carolina, studying Sports Medicine/Management/Technology.
Alexandra Cucchiaro, a freshman at the University of Rochester in New York, planning to study Psychology.
Zachary Garrigus, a junior at Stevenson University in Maryland, studying Film Arts.
Cameron Gilmore, a freshman at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, planning to study Biology.
Jillian Lewis, a freshman at Sweet Briar College in Virginia, planning to study Engineering.
Brooke Nixon, a senior at Christopher Newport University in Virginia, studying Information Science and Psychology.
Patience Parrott, a freshman at Patrick Henry College in Virginia, planning to study Strategic Intelligence and Journalism.
Jonathan Raffa, a freshman at the University of Miami in Florida, planning to study Medicine.
Ashley Unkenholz, a freshman at the University of Maryland, planning to study Biology.
Daniel Walker, a sophomore at Auburn University in Alabama, studying Aerospace Aeronautical.

How to support TowerCares
TowerCares is making a real difference in our community. But the work we do would not be possible without the continued support and generosity of our donors. TowerCares Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and donations are tax-deductible.
There are four easy and convenient ways to donate to the TowerCares Foundation:
- Donate online – You can make a tax-deductible donation to TowerCares online at our secure payment site.
- Pennies for Change. Every time you use your Tower debit card or credit card, Tower will donate a penny to the TowerCares Foundation.
- Combined Federal Campaign – TowerCares is a participating charity in the 2021 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). Towercares’ CFC number is 23594. Through the CFC, federal employees, contractors and retirees can pledge to support their favorite charities. For information, speak to your CFC keyworker.
- Maryland Charity Campaign – TowerCares is also a participating charity in the 2021 Maryland Charity Campaign (MCC). TowerCares’ MCC number is 47-4164006. Similar to the CFC, state of Maryland employees can set up automatic payroll deductions through the MCC to support the charity of their choice. For details, visit mcc.maryland.gov
The TowerCares Foundation has reached an important milestone—over $1 million in grants, donations and scholarships to help support our local military heroes, Veterans and children in need!
Since 2015, the Foundation has provided $1,068,628 in charitable donations to 66 incredible organizations, including $125,000 in college scholarships.
Reaching this milestone in just over five years would not have been possible without the support and generosity of Tower Federal Credit Union members and employees. Together we are making a real impact and improving the lives of so many in need in our community.
