The TowerCares Foundation has been up to some great things in 2018!
Since January, the Foundation, which Tower Federal Credit Union helped get started and supports, has awarded over $224,000 in grants to 27 charities. TowerCares’ mission is to help children in need as well as the Department of Defense civilian and military communities, and their families.
Here are just some of this year’s highlights:
The new TowerCares Foundation Scholarship Program launched this year. TowerCares provided a total of $25,000 in scholarships for five college students pursuing degrees in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
TowerCares provided a grant to help support the new Resiliency & Education Center at Fort Meade. The Center connects the Fort Meade community to wellness programs, mental health services, education & transition services, substance abuse counseling, and more.
TowerCares donated new backpacks filled with school supplies and provided a transportation subsidy for the Boys & Girls Club of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, which provides at-risk youth a safe and supportive environment before and after school. Similarly, the Foundation supported Paul’s Place, which gives students in grades 1-12 living in Baltimore’s Pigtown neighborhood a safe and nurturing after-school program.
TowerCares continued to provide support for Maryland Therapeutic Riding in Crownsville, Md., which provides equine therapy programs for Veterans suffering from brain and spinal cord injuries, and Warrior Canine Connection, a unique program in which Veterans help train companion animals for fellow Veterans who suffer from brain injuries or post-traumatic stress.
TowerCares continued to assist Sarah’s House, a homeless shelter at Fort Meade, with everyday necessities and a daycare voucher program, so parents can work or look for work knowing that their children are supervised by a licensed childcare provider.
Support from Tower Federal Credit Union Employees
Tower Federal Credit Union employees are actively involved in fundraising, volunteering time and resources to help support TowerCares’ mission. There were five employee-driven fundraising events this year to support TowerCares charities. Altogether, these employee events raised over $16,000!
TowerCares Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization. As a Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) approved charity, federal employees may designate CFC donations to TowerCares. TowerCares’ CFC number is 23594. TowerCares also accepts donations directly at towercaresfoundation.org.
