June 2018 Message from the Board Chair—Marie Rowland

Board ChairAfter an unusually chilly spring, the warm days of summer are finally here. No matter what the season, Tower is here for you. Whether you plan to move this summer and need help finding a new home, or it’s time to replace your car with a new and improved model, or you’re just trying to pay down bills, or build your savings, come to Tower first. Your financial goals are as unique as you are, and your credit union is here to serve you.

On behalf of Tower’s Board of Directors and Senior Management team, I want to thank those of you who attended Tower’s Annual Meeting on May 15. If you were unable to attend, a copy of Tower’s 2017 Annual Report is available here.

Earlier this year, the Board voted to expand the number of Director positions on the Board. As a result, the number of qualified candidates identified by the Nominating Committee matched the number of vacancies. At May’s Annual Meeting, three current Board members—James Kalkbrenner, Tammy Lumsden, and Harley Parkes—were re-elected by acclimation. Thank you all for your willingness to serve another term and for your dedication to Tower.

Two new Board members were also elected by acclimation: Ross Brinson and Tom Woods. Ross is a former Tower employee, and has worked in Tower’s Member Services department as well as our Investment & Asset Liability Management division. He currently works for our sponsoring agency as Chief, Operations Investment Portfolio Support. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a MBA from the University of Maryland University College.

Tom has been with our sponsoring agency for over 30 years and has an extensive background in Information Security. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Engineering Management degree from George Washington University. Since 2001, Tom has been a member of Tower’s Technical Advisory Board, offering his expertise on network security.

Both new Board members have excellent credentials and will be an asset to the Board of Directors and Tower as a whole.

Last July, Rick Stafford took over as Tower’s CEO and President after long-term CEO Martin Breland’s retirement. My fellow Board members and I would like to congratulate Rick on a successful first year at the helm. His commitment to meeting our members’ evolving financial needs at every level, along with his dedication to Tower’s values, service excellence, fraud prevention, and investing in new, emerging technologies, has benefited Tower greatly. I thank Rick for his hard work and commitment to Tower over the past year, and I have complete confidence that he will continue to lead Tower successfully into the future.

In closing, I thank you for your Tower membership and wish you and your family a fun, relaxing summer. When you get time, please take a minute to follow and like us on Facebook and LinkedIn. And, please share the wealth! Encourage your co-workers, family members, friends, and neighbors to join Tower so they too can enjoy the benefits and savings of lifetime credit union membership.
