Laurel, MD – Denise Pope has joined Tower Federal Credit Union, the largest federal credit union in Maryland, as Vice President of Branch Administration.
Pope is taking over for Peggy Stavely, who retired in January after 50+ years at Tower. Pope has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, primarily in the branch network. As Tower’s head of branch administration, Pope will oversee the administration of Tower’s 12 community and four secure-access branches, which span four Maryland counties.
“I’m delighted to join the Tower team,” Pope says. “I appreciate the warm welcome extended to me and I look forward to contributing to the ongoing success of Tower. As VP of Branch Administration, I have responsibility for all activities in Tower’s branches—most importantly, leading our team members to provide distinctive member experiences.”
Pope comes to Tower from WashingtonFirst Bank, where she was Senior VP for Retail Banking. Prior to that, she spent over 30 years at Chevy Chase Bank in several positions, including Director of Branch Banking. During her time there, Pope helped grow Chevy Chase’s branch network from 12 to over 300.
Community banking is not new to Pope, says Al Smith, Tower’s Senior VP of Member Services. “Throughout three decades of growth, Denise helped ensure Chevy Chase retained its small bank charm by always putting customers first. She is passionate about coaching and developing staff, as well as delivering excellent service. Denise knows that Tower is laser focused on serving our members, and that is in line with her values and beliefs as well.”
Pope holds a bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Six Sigma Certification from Villanova University. In her spare time, she serves as Treasurer for Camp Attaway, a local summer camp for children with emotional and behavioral disorders, and volunteers with Meals on Wheels of Howard County.
