Get rid of your sensitive documents securely at Tower’s two free paper shredding events this month. The shred days will be held at our Millersville Branch on Saturday, October 14; and again at our Columbia Branch on Saturday, October 21. Both events will take place 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Come with as many as five boxes of documents per car for these free events. While you’re there, enter for your chance to win a Smart TV, and enjoy free refreshments, games, and prizes.
Fall fun with a mission
Our shred days are a fun fall event for the entire family! But one that is also educational. Shredding documents helps ward off identity theft. Here are some other security tips for protecting your information and accounts.
When in doubt, throw it out. Links in e-mails, tweets, posts, and online advertising are often how cybercriminals compromise your computer. If it looks suspicious, even if you know the source, it’s best to delete it. You also have the option, if appropriate, to mark it as “junk email” so you no longer receive e-mails from this sender.
Think before you act. Be wary of communications that implore you to act immediately, offer something that sounds too good to be true, or ask for personal information.
Make passwords long and strong. While many sites and applications only require you to create passwords with a minimum of eight characters, security experts are now recommending passwords be 15+ characters long.
Guard your personal information. Keep Social Security numbers, account numbers, and passwords private, as well as specific information about yourself.
