Tax Help

IRS Free File

Are you interested in preparing and e-filing your federal income tax return for free? You may qualify for free online tax preparation and electronic filing through the IRS Free File service. Free File is available to eligible taxpayers through a partnership between the IRS and Free File Alliance, LLC. Go to IRS Free File to see if you qualify.

Free File Fillable Forms

If you do not qualify for Free File, you can use Free File Fillable Forms, which are online versions of paper tax forms. Everyone is eligible for this option, which works best if you are comfortable filling out tax forms and schedules without software help. Go to Free File Fillable Forms to get started.

Maryland State Taxes

Some of the companies participating in the IRS Free File service will file your Maryland tax return for free. You can also file your Maryland tax return online for free at www.marylandtaxes.com using iFile.

Note: Prepare your federal tax return first, since you will need your federal adjusted gross income for your state return.

Discounted Tax Services from TurboTax

Get your taxes done faster and easier with TurboTax online. The program follows a simple question and answer format and is easy to use. It even does all the calculations for you. The tax laws within TurboTax are always up-to-date. The program is secure and you’ll receive confirmation that your return was officially filed with the IRS.

Free e-File

With IRS free e-File, either you or a tax professional prepares your tax return. If you use a tax professional, ask him or her to file your return through IRS e-file. The IRS checks your returns electronically and has an error rate of less than 1%. The IRS does not charge a fee for e-file. However, some tax professionals charge a fee for providing the service to their clients. This fee cannot be based on any figure from the tax return.

Electronic Payment Options

The IRS offers convenient and secure electronic payment options. You can authorize an electronic funds withdrawal or use a credit card. Tip: Use your Tower Gold Mastercard® to pay your taxes and receive a 1% rebate. You can make electronic payments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Regardless of method of payment, all payments must be authorized or sent to the IRS by the tax deadline to avoid late payment penalties or interest charges.
